Every two-wheeler manufacturer has their eyes set on the high potential 200cc bike segment and Hero MotoCorp also has finally brought out its much-awaited offering, the Xtreme 200R, to the market. The bike, however, is based on the company’s existing Xtreme Sports model.
The overall dimensions of Xtreme 200R give it a well-proportionate look. The Xtreme graphics on the fuel tank add to the sportiness and the style of headlamps also adds to the muscularity of the bike. The 10-spoke alloy wheels also catch much attention. The rear, however, looks a bit weird at the first glance, which might grow on you over time. Though, the exhaust note of the Xtreme isn’t very exciting but sounds good to the ears.
The Xtreme 200R feels light and nimble at tight turns and corners. It has ample low end torque, so one doesn’t have to downshift frequently when ambling around town. The clutch feels light. The gearshifts are not as precise when compared to the competition but you will get a hang of it eventually. The NVH levels are good and the engine isn’t noisy when driven sedately, but it gets loud near the redline. On the suspension front, the Xtreme 200R gets Telescopic Hydraulic type with antifriction bush upfront and a 7-step adjustable monoshock suspension at the rear. Suspensions are adjusted for a softer ride quality, and they do a good job of dispatching speed breakers and potholes. The grip from the 17-inch MRF tyres is worth appreciating.
The Xtreme 200 returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 39.9 km/l, which is a good figure for a 200cc commuter.
Xtreme 200R is powered by an all-new 199.6cc air-cooled, 4-Stroke, 2-Valve single-cylinder OHC engine that produces a peak power of 18.1 bhp @ 8000 rpm and 17.1 Nm of peak torque at 6500 rpm. The engine is also equipped with a balancer shaft and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
